About this Event

Malik Gaines is an artist and writer who sometimes sings, and a Californian living in New York. Recent performance projects include “Star Choir” with Alexandro Segade at the Park Avenue Armory, “African Spiritualist Office Hours” at e-flux, and Morgan Bassichis’s “Damned if you Duet” at the Kitchen. Since 2000, Malik has performed and exhibited with the group My Barbarian, whose work has been presented in many museum and gallery exhibitions, performance festivals, and biennials. He is the author of Black Performance on the Outskirts of the Left: A History of the Impossible and is associate professor of Performance Studies at NYU Tisch.

Amelia Bande writes and makes musical performances. These shiny capsules of broken intimacy are often spurred by autobiographical oversharing. Her onstage impulses are funny and emotional, all about the triumphs and failures of interpersonal connections. Amelia grew up in Chile & lives in Brooklyn.

Jibz Cameron is a performance/video artist and actor living in Los Angeles. Her multi-media performance work as alter ego Dynasty Handbag has spanned 15 years and been presented at such institutions as MOCALA, PS1, Joe's Pub, The Kitchen, REDCAT, The Broad Museum, Hammer Museum, New Museum of Contemporary Art New York, among others. She has been heralded by the New York Times as “the funniest and most pitch perfect performance seen in years” and “outrageously smart, grotesque and innovative” by The New Yorker. She has written and produced 7 evening length performance pieces and countless short works that have been performed in clubs and venues internationally. She has produced multiple video works and 2 albums of original music. In addition to her work as Dynasty Handbag she has also been seen acting in films, theater and television (internet web series no one has seen). She works as a professor of performance and comedy related subjects as well as lecturing and teaching workshops. Jibz also produces and hosts Weirdo Night!, a monthly comedy and performance event in Los Angeles.

Kate Berlant is an actor, stand-up comedian and writer who was profiled by The New York Times as a “magnetic improvisational comic” at the forefront of experimental comedy. Kate was named a New Face at the 2014 Montreal Comedy Festival, and TimeOut LA listed her as a Comic to Watch in 2015. She is one of Comedy Central’s Top Ten Comics to Watch and is one of Variety’s “Ten Comics To Watch for 2015.” Kate frequently tours North America, performing at festivals including Sasquatch, Bumbershoot, Festival Supreme, SXSW, Treasure Island Music Festival, the New York Comedy Festival as well as Montreal’s Just for Laughs. She recently wrapped pilots for Comedy Central, TBS and TruTV and can be seen on Comedy Central’s The Meltdown, Viceland's "Flop House," and SeeSo's "UCB Show." She voices several characters on HBO's Animals as well as Netflix's Bojack Horseman. She wrote, executive produced, and starred in her own episode of Netflix’s original series “The Characters.” She also wrote and stars in an upcoming original Vimeo series along with John Early and director Andy DeYoung.
